Successful challenge with inspection chambers for a renovated sewer in Cheratte!

“Challenge accepted.” That was Deschacht's reply to his historic partner, the company Baguette from Thimister. The challenge consisted of supplying nearly 400 m of PVC SN8 pipes, 3 m in length, and 16 inspection chambers, which will be installed on a site with a slope of sometimes up to 45°. Deschacht, in collaboration with its supplier Kaczmarek, responded to the call and, following the approval of the production sheets in early August, delivered the valuable cargo.

Techniques and expertise on sloping terrain

The constraints on this construction site were numerous. Given the slope, access roads had to be built for the workers, the installation equipment, and the supplies. The weather, which had been unpredictable for several months, did not make the execution of the work any easier. However, despite the technical challenges and weather conditions, the progress of the work was guaranteed. The execution methods used were unusual, but thanks to the machinery fleet of the Baguette company, everything could be managed internally, as Nicolas Crahay explains. As the photos accompanying this article show, the natural sloping terrain, better suited for a mountain goat than an excavator, was terrain that had to be mastered with expertise. Fortunately, Baguette's operators are experts in their field.

Inspection chambers and PVC Benor pipes

The purpose of the inspection chambers is to reduce the flow velocity in the sewerage systems by creating a swirling effect within the chamber. This type of chamber is specially designed to slow down the water flow in the downstream direction, thereby preventing damage and deformation of the pipes and counteracting material erosion. *Deformation refers to the slow and gradual distortion of materials under a constant load over time. These custom-made Benor chambers will withstand the wear and tear caused by the water flows passing through them for years to come. It is also for this reason that AIDE has specified the PVC Benor pipes, which are distinguished by their flexibility and impact resistance, making them particularly suitable for environments subject to mechanical deformations. With a length of 3 meters, these pipes adapt to the dimensions of the formwork, making them easier to handle.

A successful collaboration for a sustainable project

Deschacht stands out in the market through the diversity of its product range and the quality of its employees. Roland Vaamonde, internal sales representative responsible for the project, coordinated the preparation of the quote, the verification and adjustment of the production sheets. He also coordinated the shipment of the order and informed our customer, Baguette, of the delivery date. After waiting for several years, the residents of Cheratte can finally enjoy a renovated sewerage system. The existing sewers, which were damaged and too small, sometimes caused backups in homes during floods. Let us hope that this inconvenient situation will soon be a distant memory once the work is completed.
