Come aboard the Escale at Liège Airport

Liege Airport is developing so well that it is attracting real estate projects. Opposite the runways, on the other side of the E42 highway, the Escale buildings are being constructed, the heart of what will soon be called Airport City. Deschacht is contributing its expertise in sewerage and water purification.

It is beneath the concrete that it happens

The 16,000 m2 of offices and 13,000 m2 of parking spaces are covered with waterproofing supplied by Deschacht and installed by the contractor Nelles Frères. This is a very large quantity of membrane, but Deschacht's most important contribution to the project was the delivery of three pumping stations in record time. Jonathan Thunus, site manager for Nelles Frères, provides some details about the project: “These three pumping stations, installed at level -2 of the underground parking garage, drain the water from the parking garage and the sewage system to level 0. The inspection chambers were custom-made in PE with all equipment already integrated. The inspection chambers are custom-made in PE with all equipment already integrated. Only the pumps have been ordered, but they will be installed after the construction work to prevent them from being damaged.

3 custom-made pump stations delivered and installed in 7 days

The challenge was, in the words of Jonathan Thunus, to respond quickly to the assignment: “Earthmoving companies are often brought in at the last minute. That’s why we need partners who can also respond within tight deadlines. Vincent (editor's note: Vincent Brehl, technical representative for Deschacht) was extremely accessible and involved in the preparations for this project. Deschacht’s responsiveness, both in terms of design and production, truly contributed to the smooth progress of the project. It usually takes 10 working days to deliver a pumping station. The design of a pumping station includes the technical study, the validation of the pump size, the production plans, the production itself, and finally the delivery,” explains Vincent Brehl. The required timeframe forced us to outdo ourselves, but because our process is well-oiled, everything went as it should.

Some explanation about the product and its use

Deschacht's pumping stations are delivered completely pre-assembled. They include the base plates, guide rails, discharge pipes, and pump handling chains. The customer can make the connections immediately after installing the inspection chamber, which saves a lot of time. The pumps are designed and installed by Deschacht’s partner, Eco Solutions. In this case, they are installed shortly before the end of the construction period. Eco Solutions installs them, connects them, and programs the control panel before issuing a certificate. The customer can then enter into a maintenance contract directly with the specialized company, without Deschacht's intervention. Transparency and trust facilitate communication and help projects move forward.
