A sewage network for a military building optimized by Deschacht's design department

This new 5,000 m² building will soon house the officers' mess of the Beauvechain barracks. During the construction of the project, Tradeco outsourced the sewerage, earthworks, and landscaping to the company VDRT. Deschacht not only supplied all the equipment for the sewerage network on this site, but also deployed the expertise of its design department.

Participation in various projects for the Belgian army

“This is a project that we have followed closely because it is a fine project, with a sewerage network that reflects our expertise. There is HDPE piping of course, but also a lot of custom-made polyethylene inspection chambers, made in our workshops in Herstal, explains Dimitri Steilen, project manager at Deschacht. In addition to the inspection chambers, a polyethylene grease separator, also manufactured by Deschacht, was ordered. This is a necessity for the sewerage network of a building intended for the catering industry, which will have to discharge wastewater from its kitchens. Participation in military projects has become a habit for Deschacht, which has been involved in two other projects in Marche-en-Famenne. In total, there are three projects with three different companies for which we are responsible for reviewing and optimizing the drainage plans and supplying all the necessary equipment, says Dimitri Steilen.

The added value of Deschacht's design bureau service

For Pascal Heraly, site manager at VDRT, Deschacht’s design service and drawing preparation are a real asset: “when you take a step back from the budget, including purchase and engineering, Deschacht offers an attractive price-quality ratio.” All Deschacht customers can use the services of the design department. For example, in a sewerage system, engineers guide customers throughout the entire project and re-verify pipe sizing in the event of any changes. A logical advantage on construction sites where changes are expected along the way. This was particularly the case at this site, as Dimitri Steilen explains: “Monitoring is provided across the entire construction site. Whether it concerns the adjustment of drainage plans, the creation of detailed quantity surveys, the organization of on-site deliveries, and ultimately the development of the as-built plan.” For Pascal Heraly, this service is also a necessity: “when we work on large projects, we now systematically call upon Deschacht’s design department.”

The advantage of follow-up by a privileged discussion partner

Deschacht's customers often become loyal customers, and this may be partly due to this careful approach to service. “From the moment we decide to work together, we view this relationship as a partnership,” says Steilen. Specifically, the Deschacht project manager who will carry out the study is also the person who will negotiate prices and who will follow the site manager throughout the entire project.
