Petroleum Zuid was once the heart of the Antwerp petroleum industry. Today, these remediated sites are ready for a new chapter: Blue Gate Antwerp, a leading public-private project taking the future into its own hands. Blue Gate is the country's first circular, eco-efficient, water-linked business park. This makes it the ideal location for the ‘school of tomorrow’: the Technical Campus Blue Gate Antwerp, which is part of AGSO.
Commissioned by Antwerpse Bouwwerken (Eiffage AB), Deschacht drew up the plan for the optimization of the sewerage and rainwater drainage. Together with Advance Construct, they once again successfully completed this innovative project.
An obvious collaboration
Both Eiffage AB, Deschacht and Advance Construct have been trusted partners for years. Tom Baeyens, CEO of Advance Groep, confirms: “There has been good contact between the three parties for years. The advantage of Deschacht is undoubtedly the product knowledge and the price-quality ratio. They also take the main contractor's budget into account. Moreover, everything is becoming more complicated regarding the necessary regulations, and this is precisely what Deschacht's engineering department specializes in.”
Optimization through recovery and infiltration
For the project of the future, water recovery is essential. The necessary rainwater pits were provided to supply the sanitary facilities. Any excess water is discharged via the Ribwall IT plus infiltration pipe. These strong polypropylene pipes are perforated so that the water infiltrates locally into the soil and does not have to be discharged directly into watercourses. “Another advantage at Deschacht is that they choose the right materials at the right price after the study. The engineering department takes the actual flow rates into account, which allows us to avoid overdimensioning the pipes,” Tom Baeyens adds.
The collaboration is a win-win for all parties and, importantly, everything is being done in accordance with the law. Even during the execution of the construction work, Blue Gate Antwerp's ambition is already being realized: linear growth thanks to circular working. This guarantees that the delivery in May 2022 will be a success. Already an event to look forward to!
