Roofing materials and tailored advice for the Basalt residential project in the Antwerp Campine region

In the green heart of the Antwerp Campine region, the new-build project Basalt is currently rising. Twenty-six apartments, six semi-detached, and three detached houses are nesting within the authentic village feel of Olen on the Oevelseweg. Blockx Dakwerken was responsible for the roofing work and was assisted by the Deschacht branch in Hoogstraten for both the supply of materials and tailored advice.

On the former site of the Mertens Volkswagen garage in Olen, Elements Development is developing Basalt: a diverse residential domain with apartments, semi-detached and closed houses featuring a shared park garden. Blockx Dakwerken from Arendonk was contracted for the finishing of the pitched roofs in the project. “On this construction site, we took care of the installation of the Koramic roof tiles, VELUX roof windows, and Kingspan Unidek Aero Comfort roof elements,’ says Herman Blockx, managing director of Blockx Dakwerken. “On both the apartments and the houses, we installed 1570 m

Koramic Actua 10 LT roof tiles. In addition, we installed 34 VELUX roof windows type E&C MK06 2070, distributed across the houses and apartments. Finally, we installed 728 m in the houses

Kingspan's Unidek Aero Comfort 5.0 roof elements. The elements are quick to install on site thanks to panel clamps, allowing us to finalize the roofing as quickly as possible.”

Tailored advice

Arno Bosmans, account manager at Deschacht, looks back with satisfaction on the pleasant collaboration with Blockx Dakwerken. “In addition to regular advice on roof tiles and VELUX roof windows, together with Herman Blockx, we took a detailed look at the right choice of Kingspan Unidek roof element. Logically, the client and main contractor wanted to finish the homes wind- and watertight as quickly as possible. Our advice was to choose the Unidek Aero Comfort 5.0 roof element. The self-supporting system guarantees quick installation and features a ready-made white plasterboard finish on the inside, so the attic is immediately nicely finished.” For the appearance of the roof, the client had a specific style in mind: an aged, red hue. “At Deschacht, we thought along with them and provided the client and roofer with a few samples. The choice ultimately fell on the Koramic Actua 10 LT roof tile in a shaded red color,” says Arno Bosmans. Herman Blockx looks back with satisfaction on the collaboration with Deschacht. “Deschacht does more than just supply materials. They think along with you and provide tailored advice so that we, as contractors, can deliver top-shelf quality time and time again.”
