Renowned golf club gets a makeover with Deschacht products

For the renovation of several buildings of the Royal Golf Club of Belgium, a renowned golf club located on the Ravenstein estate in Tervuren, Haachtse Dakwerken used insulation and natural slates from Deschacht. With several gable roofs being worked on, the one-stop shop for building materials proves with this prestigious project that it is no longer just a reliable partner for flat roof finishing. “Because the insulation panels are somewhat smaller than standard panels, installation goes a lot smoother. In addition, the price-quality ratio and smooth delivery are also reasons why we chose Deschacht’s products,” says Erik Van den Broeck of Haachtse Dakwerken.

“In the project, our BauderPIR SF insulation and Itasi natural slates were used to renovate the roofs of a barn, the restaurant’s kitchen area, the castle, the caretaker’s residence combined with the caddy house, and the secretary’s residence on the site,” begins Frank Kino, account manager for roofs & facades at Deschacht. “This took place over the course of several years, with the first phase starting in April 2020 and the last one ending in March of this year. For the barn, it involved 600 m² of roof, for the restaurant kitchen 400 m², the renovation of the castle roof covered 650 m², and 450 m² of roof was renewed on the caretaker’s residence combined with the caddy house and the secretary’s residence. The prestigious project demonstrates that today we are also a reliable partner for the finishing of pitched roofs, and the days when you could only come to us for flat roof finishing materials have been behind us for several years.”

Underlayment immediately attached to insulation

Haachtse Dakwerken deliberately chose Deschacht products to carry out the work. “The BauderPIR SF insulation boards measure 1.2 by 1.8 meters, making them easier to handle than boards with the standard dimensions of 1.2 by 2.4 meters,” says Erik Van den Broeck, managing director of Haachtse Dakwerken. “Another major advantage of the boards is that the underlayment is already attached to them.” According to Van den Broeck, the Itasi natural slates can easily compete with other natural slates. “They are first-choice slates, which specifically means that all the slates have a consistent thickness and straightness, and a better finish. The result is easy to guess: they fit better into the slate hooks, allowing us to work faster. Moreover, we chose the 40×22 format.” “We are also very pleased with Deschacht’s delivery service. It went exceptionally smoothly. Deschacht has a large stock of Itasi natural slates. With many other natural slate suppliers, you often have to wait months for your order. Finally, the price-quality ratio is of course also very important to us—let’s not lie about that—and for both the BauderPIR SF insulation and the Itasi natural slates, both of which have an ATG certification, that ratio is simply very good.”

Sustainable

“Itasi natural slates also score high in terms of durability,” adds Frank Kino. “Slates do not lose their strength and therefore last an incredibly long time. You can still find them on many centuries-old buildings. Unlike many other types of slate, Itasi natural slates also contain very little pyrite or iron pyrite, meaning they hardly rust at all, which further extends their lifespan. They are also installed in such a way that they are easily recoverable to be reused in another project.” “However, Itasi natural slates are not only durable in the literal sense of the word. They are also extremely environmentally friendly. It is a natural product that requires little processing and has no additives. Moreover, at the end of their lifespan, the slates can be crushed into gravel. Finally, Itasi natural slates also have a short supply chain to the customer, which is likewise sustainable. We go and fetch them directly from a mine in Spain without any intermediaries involved.”

Good collaboration

Frank Kino and Erik Van den Broeck look back on the collaboration with satisfaction. “When I once called Deschacht with a specific question, they told me on the phone that Frank would call me back. He did so after just three minutes. I thought he wanted some clarification on my question, but he was already calling with the solution,” the latter elaborates with an example.
