The project
This project involved the architectural and structural works in the Landegem – Aalter section for the expansion of railway line 50A from 2 to 4 tracks. In addition to widening the tracks, the Hansbeke and Bellem railway stops and a new bypass were also addressed. Commissioned by Van Laere, the engineering department of Deschacht drew up the sewerage plans for the Hansbeke station area and also supplied several kilometers of double-walled perforated PP pipes, type SN8, for the railway route.
Challenging sizing of the drainage channels
At the Hansbeke station, Van Laere had to deal with a limited installation height. Part of the study involved dimensioning the drainage channels to still achieve sufficient drainage capacity despite this limited installation height. Deschacht proposed the Faserfix KS150 drainage channel from Hauraton. This type of channel was supplied in a lowered model. A grating with transverse longitudinal bars was chosen, making it wheelchair and bicycle friendly. The narrow openings of the grating prevent the trapping of fine heels. Deschacht supplied 120 linear meters of drainage channel for installation on the entrance ramp, under the pedestrian overpass beneath the tracks, and on the pedestrian ramps, among other locations.
