Office furniture supplier Inofec is moving to a new 16,000 m² building featuring a showroom and a warehouse in Tielt. Because sustainable business practices are important to the company, it is having a geothermal system installed to heat and cool the 3,000 m² showroom via heat pumps using geothermal energy. S & D Boringen is drilling 24 holes of 123 meters deep and connecting all pipes and geothermal probes. A total of 6 km of PE geothermal probes will be installed to bring the heat up, along with 1 km of PE pipes connecting the 24 boreholes, the collector pit, and the heat pump. A ground-source heat pump is efficient because the earth maintains a temperature of 12 degrees at a depth of 10 meters, rising to 15 degrees at the maximum depth of 150 meters. Using PE geothermal probes filled with a heat-absorbing fluid, the heat pump extracts this heat and pumps it back down after use. Because the pumped heat is already at such a high temperature, no other type of heat pump has a higher efficiency.
