In Beloeil, in the province of Hainaut, the Walloon market leader TRBA is constructing a drinking water pipeline. For this, a complex horizontal directional drilling had to be carried out under the roadway. This drilling was executed by the partner and specialist Dekabo/Fordibel using HDPE pipes.
Specialization in utility pipelines
Deschacht supplied these approved HDPE drinking water pipes with a diameter of 630 mm. This range of HDPE pipes is part of the specialized product portfolio of Deschacht's Utility Pipelines department. This department handles the supply of pipes for underground infrastructure such as wastewater disposal, drinking water distribution, fire service pipes, electrical conduits, telecom, etc. Specific cabling for railways is also part of this specific product range.
The knowledge center of Deschacht utilities is located in Hamme, where recent investments were also made in expanding storage capacity and a specialized truck-mounted crane.
HDPE pipes
Dekabo carried out the horizontal directional drilling under the roadway using HDPE PE100 rc pipes with an exceptional diameter of 630, in 20 m lengths. These were welded together using GF fittings and connected to the 4.2 km cast iron main pipeline.
Quality of Kaczmarek
Deschacht is the exclusive supplier of HDPE pressure pipes from its Polish partner and manufacturer Kaczmarek. Deschacht and Kaczmarek have been loyal partners for 14 years. This Polish family-owned business has been active in the production of a wide range of PVC applications for almost 40 years. In the 1990s, Kaczmarek specialized in the production of sewer pipes. With the technical expertise gained, the production entity was expanded to include water supply, gas, and sanitary pipes. This leading European manufacturer has invested in 9 HDPE production lines in recent years. This allows us to build upon the technical expertise and quality of our partner and to quickly respond to specific deliveries.
HDPE pressure pipes for transport of drinking water
The HDPE pressure pipes are available for various applications and in a range of pressure or load classes. As standard, they are produced in PE100 or PE100 RC, black and with a blue stripe for the transport of drinking water. Installation is carried out via butt welding or with electrofusion fittings. For the project in Beloeil, drinking water supply pipes with a diameter of 630 were supplied.
Deschacht's HDPE drinking water pipes were inspected in early 2024 by Aquaflanders, the umbrella organization for water companies and sewer managers in Flanders. This inspection enables Deschacht to supply HDPE drinking water pipes in accordance with the quality and standards imposed by the Flemish drinking water sector.
The inspection process of SWDE – Aquawal – was also successfully completed. This government agency manages the legal and regulatory framework regarding three domains contained in the Water Code:
- water production (capturing, pumping and making drinkable)
- distribution of drinking water through pipes
- protection of water resources intended for human consumption
Deschacht currently distributes certified HDPE pipes ranging from diameter 90 to 1600.
GF fittings – approved for drinking water transport
When it comes to the transport of drinking water, the quality of components and pipes matters. Compared to other materials, plastic piping systems offer several advantages for drinking water applications. The plastic components are highly corrosion-resistant. Plastic solutions are often more affordable than metal alternatives, and their long lifespan and low maintenance costs contribute to overall savings.
Deschacht is partnering with the Swiss manufacturer Georg Fischer for the distribution of fittings for the transport of drinking water. Just like the HDPE pipes, these fittings are approved by Aquawal and Aquaflanders for the transport of drinking water.
The strictest regulations are complied with, which contributes to the success of the projects. Our material experts, who can draw on their extensive experience in the water sector, can offer tailored advice.
