The small town of Villers-le-Bouillet is dominated by a futuristic-looking water tower that could have come straight out of a Jules Verne novel. However, that imposing structure needed new water pipes—a task that the Société Wallonne des Eaux (SWDE) entrusted to the company Hydrogaz.
In late 2023, Rue le Marais underwent a makeover with the installation of new pipes. “We started by laying the discharge pipe from a separation chamber. Then we tackled the water tower’s supply pipe, starting from a feed in the same chamber,” explains Eric Forthomme, project manager at Hydrogaz. “The entire installation will supply SWDE's drinking water pipelines.”
Superpowered pipes
“The specifications prescribed a very specific type of pipes and we turned to Deschacht because their prices are competitive and they offer high-quality products that comply with the European standard NBN EN 545,” Eric Forthomme continues. “For this project, we ordered DN300 diameter cast iron pipes from Electrosteel.”.

. In case of minor damage to the protective casing, the epoxy layer is self-healing. The inner lining is made of food-grade concrete.
Eco-friendly pipes
Ductile iron seems like an ideal material for water pipes. Only the misunderstanding that it would be polluting prevents its generalized application. Although the cast iron is made in blast furnaces, Electrosteel has multiple certifications: ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and SA8000.
