NMBS equipped the Mechelen station with 2 new platforms and extra tracks with a 3,000 m² canopy. Deschacht redesigned the drainage plan and supplied the pipes to drain water from the roof, the roof emergency overflow, and the track troughs beneath the tracks. To drain water from the emergency overflow and the track troughs, PP pipes with diameters ranging from 315 to 600 mm were proposed. These were connected using standard socket joints, which is easier than air-tight welding of high-pressure pipes in hard-to-reach areas. The mounting brackets had to be strong enough and additionally anchored to support the weight of the water.
