Expansion of the CINERGIE site: when water management becomes a project for experts

Our engineering department is the heart of a custom solution for the treatment of runoff water.

In Fleurus, Cinergie scrl operates a biomethanisation unit where green electricity and biomethane are produced from organic raw materials. As part of the expansion of its storage slabs, the company faced a major challenge: efficiently managing the significant amounts of runoff water generated by the expansion of paved surfaces. That is where Deschacht's engineering department comes into the picture.

With 10,000 m² of concrete slabs – not counting the adjacent fields – the project went beyond the traditional scope of a simple drainage network. Together with Cinergie, Deschacht engaged its engineering department to design a sustainable, custom solution perfectly tailored to the specific conditions of the site.

An accurate technical design

Based on an extensive soil permeability study conducted by Geolys, Patrick Glorieux from Deschacht’s engineering department handled the complete implementation study in AutoCAD. The positioning and sizing of the network were determined based on the paved surfaces and expected peak flow rates. Street inlets, pipes, gutters, and the pumping station were calculated with extreme precision and strategically chosen to guarantee the performance and lifespan of the installation.

Controlled drainage, from high point to pumping station

The storage panels are profiled in such a way that the water is directed to a low point, where a network of street inlets and gutters collects the runoff. This network also absorbs the water from the adjacent field, with a clear separation between clean and polluted water:

  • The network of storage plates collects water laden with fibers and organic matter. This water is directed via the pumping station to a storage tank.
  • The network of adjacent fields, which discharges clear water into a wadi and subsequently into an open retention basin, which will soon be expanded to a useful capacity of 555 m³.

Downstream, a custom-built pumping station was installed: a double-walled HDPE chamber (Ø 1500 mm, height 2.70 m), equipped with two high-flow pumps (totaling 110 l/sec), mounted on DN100 duckfoot bends with non-return valves. This station was realized in collaboration with Collinet (chamber production and pre-equipment) and The Flow Group for the sizing, installation, and commissioning of the pumps.

Robust materials for a demanding site

Considering the traffic of heavy machinery and the shallow installation depth of the pipes, Deschacht recommended the use of PP RIBWALL SN8 Benor pipes, with diameters from Ø 300 to Ø 1000. For the channels, the Faserfix® Super 500 model was chosen because of its high drainage capacity and robustness. This system is perfectly suited for heavy loads in logistics zones and guarantees efficient water drainage, even during heavy rainfall.

Smooth execution and a satisfied customer

The works were carried out precisely by the earth-moving company BATRAGECI from Natoye. Site manager Pascal Colette testifies:
