The outdated marina along the old Scheldt arm in Oudenaarde was in need of renewal: a new quay wall, redevelopment of roads, and the construction of a new pontoon. Herbosch-Kiere carried out the works, commissioned by De Vlaamse Waterweg and the City of Oudenaarde.
Green and sustainable living environment
The renovation includes a significant greening of the area. The planting of various tree species and vegetation contributes to a greener and more attractive living environment.
Tree bunkers for optimal tree growth
Deschacht supplied 8 Treeparker tree bunker systems measuring 6 m x 2.4 m x 1.2 m. Tree bunkers are underground growing sites for urban trees and ensure optimal root growth and stability. The project at the marina posed an additional challenge: there was little space between the paved quay wall and the roadway. By placing the tree bunkers beneath the roadway, additional soil volume was created for the planting. This ensures that the trees can continue to grow under optimal conditions. An additional argument is that by placing the tree bunkers, the risk of root heave on the paving above is avoided. The roadway at the marina has a speed limit of 30 km/h, which made it possible to place the Treeparker tree bunkers beneath the roadway at a depth of 50 cm below street level.
Renewal of the pier
For years, the marina of Oudenaarde served as a crucial mooring place for sailors. The old jetties were in poor condition and in need of renewal. The new jetty has a width of 3 m, is spacious enough for comfortable access, and has an aesthetic look that matches the marina. Through Deschacht, Herbosch-Kiere was referred to the sister company Domspro. Domspro is a specialist in products for outdoor landscaping such as fences, enclosures, and decking boards. For the pier, wood-composite boards from Silvadec – type Atmosphere, LIMA brown color – were proposed.
High-quality decking boards, extremely slip-resistant
These boards are produced from co-extruded wood-plastic composite, giving them exceptional properties. This is essential in an environment where the jetty is subject to wear and tear. The Silvadec boards are extremely slip-resistant and their color remains absolutely stable over time! Silvadec Atmosphere is a durable, all-around decking board suitable for the most demanding projects and the most intensive uses. Moreover, the look fits the desired aesthetic of the marina perfectly. The project was custom-manufactured in its entirety by Silvadec/Domspro and delivered to Herbosch-Kiere.
The overall project resulted in the improvement of the waterway infrastructure, as well as a greener, more sustainable and more attractive living environment.
