Commissioned by the municipality of Zwartewaterland, the old sanitary sewer pipes in the Nieuwesluis in Zwartsluis are currently being replaced. The work is being carried out by Van Dalfsen Infra (VDI) from Genemuiden, a contractor known for its high quality standards. For this ambitious project, which focuses on sustainability, robustness, and precision, a smart combination of innovative piping systems and reliable partners was chosen.
Exclusive ductile iron pipes from Electrosteel
For the main pipelines, the client resolutely chose ductile iron pipes from Electrosteel, exclusively distributed by Deschacht in Belgium and the Netherlands. These pipes, with an expected lifespan of more than 150 years, were specifically selected for their outstanding technical properties and sustainable character.
What makes Electrosteel unique:
- Epoxy protection: an extremely hard epoxy coating with an average thickness of 150 µm (minimum 100 µm), which protects the pipe against scratches and chemicals.
- Calibrated pipes: up to DN300 standard, and for this project even without extra charge up to larger diameters. This guarantees smooth installation without additional on-site measurement.
- Full traceability: Electrosteel is the only manufacturer worldwide where every pipe and fitting has a unique serial number, ensuring unprecedented transparency and on-site tracking.
- Compatibility and superiority: Electrosteel products are compatible with other systems in accordance with NEN EN598, but excel compared to alternatives such as INTEGRAL, thanks in part to better calibration (up to DN500) and a thicker epoxy layer.
Smart home connections thanks to Connex by Funke
The house connections have also evolved. For this project, Connex house connections from Funke were chosen, a smart solution with a range of technical advantages:
- Unique design that fits ductile iron perfectly (in accordance with EN598) and accommodates minor cement damage without requiring additional repairs.
- Mechanically self-closing system, chemically anchored with two-component adhesive for a leak-proof connection.
- Dual-action ball joint (11° total) for flexibility during positioning and operation.
- Made of PVC-U for maximum chemical resistance, with a recognizable red color that facilitates detection during camera inspection.
Collaboration in European top quality
Van Dalfsen Infra put it aptly: “Good is not good enough.” For the implementation of the new separated sewer system and the redesign of the Nieuwesluis, only the best materials were chosen. In Deschacht (Belgium), Funke (Germany), and LBN (Netherlands/Germany), they found the right partners meeting the highest demands of quality, durability, and cooperation. Our specialist Jan Grobet guided this project from A to Z and assisted VDI in the preparation and material selection. Together, we developed a solution that is both technical and future-oriented.
