The Wanty Group is modernizing the sewerage network of the municipality of Wangenies with ductile iron pipes from Electrosteel, supplied by Deschacht. Sustainable and resistant to aggressive soils.
Since November 24, 2025, Wanty, on behalf of Igretec, has been carrying out extensive sewerage works in Wangenies (Fleurus). These include the construction of a collector and the renovation of the road infrastructure. To respond to the soil conditions and the presence of stray currents, the project relies on ductile iron pipes, supplied by Deschacht, which guarantee the durability and reliability of the future network.
A dual technical challenge: clear water and bottoms with stray currents
During site preparation, the teams identified the inflow of clear water of unknown origin into the existing sewerage network. Furthermore, the soil studies carried out as part of the project revealed the presence of stray currents. These specific site conditions require the use of materials that are resistant to corrosion and aggressive environments.
Wanty chooses ductile iron for a sustainable network
After securing the contract, the Wanty Group called upon Deschacht for the supply of the pipes for the new collector. The choice fell on PUX ductile iron, ideal for guaranteeing the durability of the network in soils exposed to stray currents, and with significantly better protection than conventional solutions. Deschacht supplied more than 1,200 meters of pipes in diameters DN 300, 400, 500, and 600, as well as sealing accessories and specific branch pieces (14 pieces of Ø300 and 21 pieces of Ø500), which were required due to the evolution of the works.
Why ductile iron was the right choice:

A highly valued technical education
Upon receipt of the initial deliveries, Deschacht organized a half-day technical training session, conducted by two technical specialists from Electrosteel who traveled specifically from France. Objective: to convey the correct installation techniques for PUX ductile cast iron, explain the standards and procedures, as well as the techniques for cutting and laying the pipes. The Wanty Group repeatedly emphasized the high quality of this training, which contributed to a safe and efficient execution on the job site. Meanwhile, 400 meters of pipe have already been installed without issue, fully confirming the technical choice.
A strong commercial relationship and a well-managed construction site
For Wanty, the choice of Deschacht was self-evident thanks to a relationship of trust and a competitive price-quality ratio for the supplied materials. Completion of the work is scheduled for June 2026, but the initial results are already very positive: smooth installation, clean cuts, and no problems during grinding or cleaning. This construction site marks the first large-scale ductile iron project between Wanty and Deschacht.
