An infiltrating floor that combines storage with sustainable rainwater management
In Marche-en-Famenne, the Hubo store recently expanded its outdoor storage area. A seemingly simple project, but with a clear technical challenge: efficiently managing rainwater without overloading the existing sewage infrastructure. To tackle this, contractor Solidbeton, a specialist in polished concrete floors, proposed a pragmatic and high-performance solution: the Drainix® infiltrating floor, supplied by Deschacht.
An efficient technical choice
The affected area covers nearly 400 m² of flooring intended for the store's outdoor storage. The principle is clear: allow rainwater to infiltrate directly into the ground, as close as possible to the drop point. This is a solution particularly well-suited for large surfaces, where regulations and environmental requirements regarding water management are increasingly strict.
Drainix®: a floor designed for surface runoff infiltration
The Drainix® elements used on this site form a sustainable permeable surface, consisting of 15 cm thick PE Drainix® cellular panels, into which a reinforced concrete floor is poured on-site. This patented system combines the lightweight nature of a plastic structure with the mechanical strength of concrete, ensuring reliable durability, even under intensive traffic such as forklift use, once the surface is filled with crushed stone. This creates a high-performance infiltrating floor that promotes direct infiltration of rainwater into the subsoil.
With roughly 30% of openings, Drainix® easily exceeds the minimum legal threshold of 10% according to PTV 126 to be considered permeable. This generous margin guarantees an infiltration capacity that is significantly higher than the legal minimum.
Drainix® does not replace traditional sewage systems, but smartly complements them where infiltration is technically and economically feasible.
Professional execution by the contractor
On this construction site, the company handled the entire process: delivery of the concrete, pouring of the Drainix® floors, and finishing. Incidentally, this was not the first time. Following a previous successful project in Braine-l’Alleud (650 m²), the team was already completely familiar with the system. Result: smooth installation, with no need for specific on-site technical assistance.
