Deschacht is innovating at the XLG construction site in Milmort
In Milmort (Herstal), the XLG group is breathing new life into an existing industrial estate by establishing its new headquarters there. This large-scale project includes the renovation of the existing cladding, the construction of a new hall, and the landscaping. The works have been entrusted to Roebben NV and are overseen by the engineering firm Biemar & Biemar. Deschacht proposed an innovative and sustainable solution for rainwater drainage.
A unique challenge in terms of sewerage
The original plan provided for the installation of two hydrocarbon separators to purify the rainwater. Site manager Wilfried Dibo of Roebben approached Deschacht's engineering department to optimize this plan with a more well-thought-out, economical, and environmentally friendly solution.
An innovative solution: the DDSelect™ Vortex separator
Deschacht proposed a unique system that had not previously been used in Belgium: the DDSelect™ Vortex separator, developed in collaboration with Hydro International and Collinet. This is an external, compact, certified, and proven water purification system, integrated into a double-walled HDPE manhole. The technology operates on the basis of the vortex effect, whereby suspended particles settle under controlled swirling action.
System benefits:
- Significant restriction of excavation work and backfill volume
- Easy and safe maintenance via a manhole, without entering the pit
- Control of OPEX costs thanks to predictable maintenance frequency and sludge volumes
- Effective removal of particles between 200 and 50 microns
- Discharge in accordance with the European Urban Wastewater Directive (Directive 91/271/EEC) – View directive
A strategic choice
By placing the DDSelect™ in front of the infiltration system, XLG and Roebben anticipate ease of maintenance. The DDSelect™ catches the particles before they reach the infiltration system, thereby preventing the clogging of the geotextile and preserving the infiltration capacity. This choice increases the lifespan of the system.
Rethinking water management
The installation of the very first DDSelect™ Vortex sediment separator in Belgium perfectly demonstrates how Deschacht dares to think differently about water management. Moving away from standard solutions, this project becomes a showcase of our approach: daring to innovate, breaking away from traditional patterns, and offering technical alternatives that meet current environmental requirements.
