For the redevelopment of the playground at GVB Wijnendaele (Torhout), the management of this primary school called upon the expertise of Architecten Groep III, main contractor Alheembouw nv, and contractor DENEIRE. For the supply of high-quality drainage channels and matching grates, DENEIRE turned to Deschacht.
During the past summer vacation, excavators and shovels went to work to give the playground of the Municipal Free Primary School Wijnendaele in Torhout a thorough make-over. During this process, full attention was paid to the smooth drainage of rainwater, so that the schoolchildren can play outside in pleasant and safe conditions starting this school year.
Quality meets design
For the realization of a sustainable drainage system, contractor DENEIRE used the Recyfix Pro drainage channel with a plastic Fibretec grating. With this Hauraton solution prescribed by the architectural firm, the building owner is opting for a solid solution with an eye for design. “This drainage channel with its corresponding grating looks better than the same product in galvanized steel,” confirms Peter Rommel, Hauraton product specialist at Deschacht. “The combination of PP channel and PA grating also guarantees a very long lifespan, with a component added for extra colorfastness. An investment that quickly pays for itself.”
100% recycled material
When it comes to environmental friendliness, Recyfix Pro also scores very well, Peter confirms. “A long lifespan is an important plus anyway. But the fact that this product is made entirely from recycled material is also a major asset. Moreover, this drainage channel and grating are themselves 100 percent reusable.”
Light and workable material
The employees at DENEIRE are very enthusiastic about this Hauraton product. “Unlike heavy cast-iron gratings, they were able to work with very light and workable—and therefore also easy-to-transport—material,” Peter says. “They were also full of praise for the quick installation, thanks to the system of pre-assembled drainage channels. Additional time-consuming assembly on-site was therefore unnecessary.”
Robust solution
Yet another major asset of the Recyfix Pro drainage channel and plastic Fibretec grating is the sturdiness of the material. “During the installation of drainage channels and gratings, the DENEIRE team noticed that these products can take quite a beating,” Peter indicates. “But even after installation, it is clear how robust a PE and PA design is: not only are these drainage channels and gratings highly resistant to heavy loads—up to class C 250—furthermore, the Recyfix Pro drainage channel handles a shrinking or expanding concrete substrate with ease.”
Safety first!
Last but not least, the safety of the schoolchildren is also high on the agenda. Peter explains: “The Fibretec grating has a slot width of 9 millimeters. With a width like that, rainwater drains away smoothly, while children cannot get their fingers stuck between the grating slots. In addition, this grating is anchored into the Recyfix Pro drainage channel, which provides even more safety.”
