A custom-made retention basin in Villers-le-Bouillet

The Villers-le-Bouillet industrial estate, located right next to the E42 motorway, is experiencing strong growth. To meet the high demand from local companies for suitable business premises, SPI launched a major expansion of the zone. But every urbanization project brings an inevitable challenge: stormwater management.

A low-permeability soil, a technical challenge

Infiltration studies showed that the soil was poorly suited for infiltration, making the construction of a buffer basin necessary. The engineering firm Arcadis had initially provided for a basin with classic SAUL modules. However, their minimum height of 600 mm proved incompatible with the specific boundary conditions of the site.

Low-height infiltration modules

To overcome this technical impasse, Eloy Travaux called upon Deschacht. Thanks to the wide range of solutions, the project could be adapted. Modules with a height of 300 mm were chosen – a less common solution, but perfectly suited for this application. Due to their compact design, they meet the site requirements while allowing inspection. The result: a buffer basin of 390 m³ was created over an area of 1,296 m², with a smart connection via a distribution manhole that connects a Ø500 mm collector to four 250 mm inlets. In addition, a 300 mm foundation bed was provided to improve infiltration.

A fast and efficient execution

Thanks to the light weight and simple installation of the elements, the installation could be carried out in just two working days. A preparatory site visit by Vincent Brehl and a detailed installation plan, drawn up by Nordine Zeryouhi from Deschacht's engineering department, ensured smooth coordination with site manager William Lathouwers.

Deschacht, a reliable partner

This project once again demonstrates that Deschacht is capable of offering customized technical solutions tailored to the realities on the ground. The expertise, combined with the guidance provided by its employees and the diversity of its product range, makes Deschacht an indispensable partner for infrastructure and development projects in Wallonia.
