2.5 km force main I Lichtaart

Client: Aquafin

General contractor: Ambaro

The N134 between Poederlee and Lichtaart is getting a new bicycle path. Aquafin is taking advantage of the works to replace the existing sewerage system along the 2.5 km route with a separate sewer system. A 500 mm diameter force main will be installed along the entire route to pump the wastewater to the sewage treatment plant in Lichtaart. The separate sewerage system is being constructed using small force mains, vitrified clay and PVC pipes, and small pump units. Aquafin chose plastic force mains that can be butt-fused. With butt fusion, the pipes are literally melted together to form one long pipe, significantly reducing the risk of leaks. In addition, custom-made pipes of 13.5 meters are used instead of the standard 12 meters. This saves a lot of time: fewer transports are needed and there is less welding work.
