Installation of sewerage with more than 1700 meters of stoneware pipes

The SPGE (Société Publique de Gestion de l'Eau) recently started a major project with the aim of discharging wastewater to the future wastewater treatment plant. In this context, the Intercommunale Namuroise de Services Publics (INASEP), as delegated project owner and represented by project engineer Jean-Marc SIMON, has appointed the company Decubel. Decubel specializes in, among other things, roadworks and sewerage projects.

A new sewer network

“INASEP commissioned us to construct a completely new combined sewer system heading toward the future wastewater treatment plant,” explains Julien Gonze, technical director at Decubel. “Our task was to build the sewer network between the upper part of the village and the future treatment plant downstream, separating wastewater and rainwater.”

Gres, a reliable choice

For this project, INASEP recommended the use of vitrified clay pipes, a material that has been used for centuries and has become increasingly popular with intermunicipal utility companies in recent years. The choice of vitrified clay is due to its high wear resistance, making it more durable than concrete or metal, especially on routes with a significant elevation change. “We have been working with our supplier Euro Sweillem for vitrified clay pipes for three years now,” says Samuel Mazzacavallo, sales representative at Deschacht. “The major advantage of vitrified clay is its wear resistance. It wears down much less quickly than concrete or metal when water flows down a slope. That is why vitrified clay is often specified for projects with large elevation differences.”

A large-scale project

The construction of the combined sewer system in Pesche stands out for the enormous quantity of materials used: more than 1,000 meters of vitrified clay pipes with a diameter of 300 mm and over 700 meters with a diameter of 400 mm. Although no engineering firm was involved, this project is special due to the rarity of vitrified clay and the exceptional dimensions of the pipes. “We supplied 1,020 meters of pipes with a diameter of 300 mm and 740 meters of pipes with a diameter of 400 mm. Everything was in stock, which allowed us to deliver quickly,” adds Samuel Mazzacavallo. Julien Gonze of Decubel is very satisfied with the collaboration with Deschacht: “For me personally, this was the first time working with Deschacht, and I must say that everything went exceptionally well. We chose them because their products met the Qualiroute requirements, respected the Benor standard, and fit within the budget. In addition, we also ordered PP pipes and 160 mm fittings for the street gullies. Communication was excellent, delivery was fast, and Samuel, one of their sales representatives, even visited the site to take pictures.” This project illustrates our commitment to providing reliable and efficient solutions for large-scale projects.
