Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten Canal I Leuven

Client: The Flemish Waterway

De Vlaamse Waterweg is automating all locks on the Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten canal. For this purpose, a bypass culvert (also known as a siphon) is being installed at each lock, running from the upper pound (where the water level is highest) alongside the lock, under the towing path, to the lower pound (with the lowest water level). For this project, De Vlaamse Waterweg is using large polypropylene Ribwall pipes. To ensure sufficient capacity, a pipe with a diameter of 1 meter was chosen. In addition to the economic factor, this pipe offers advantages in terms of installation. Despite their 6-meter length, the Ribwall pipes are fairly easy to handle. Moreover, a lot of time is saved. This is because Ribwall pipes are joined together using O-rings and a socket, and do not need to be welded.
