Redevelopment of parking spaces IKEA Zaventem: sustainable water infiltration central

Recently, a portion of the parking spaces at the IKEA Zaventem parking lot was thoroughly renovated. Commissioned by the developer, contractor De Kempeneer carried out the reconstruction, with a special focus on sustainability and water management.

Due to intensive use, the existing concrete pavement was largely broken and in need of replacement. A new permeable pavement was chosen, which ensures natural infiltration of rainwater.

Smart rainwater management beneath the parking lot

The surface water on the parking spaces infiltrates through the permeable paving into a system of drainage pipes connected to two underground infiltration basins. These are constructed from control and vario boxes with a combined volume of no less than 287 m³. This system ensures that the rainwater is buffered locally and can gradually penetrate the soil, which significantly reduces the load on the sewage system.

Efficient drainage with channel drainage

For the drainage of the paved areas, a high-performance drainage system was also implemented. A total of 385 meters of HAURATON Faserfix Super 200 drainage channels were installed, both in the parking lot and along the front facade of the store, covered with a cast iron slotted grate of load class D 400 kN. These channels efficiently collect the water from the asphalt paving and direct it to the underground infiltration system.

Total solution by Deschacht

For this project, Deschacht supplied an integrated package of solutions: infiltration crates, drainage pipes and drainage channels. Thanks to this total solution, a sustainable and future-oriented water management system could be realized that perfectly responds to the needs of a busy parking environment.
