Steel tanks for rainwater storage
With Tubao buffer and storage tanks, Deschacht offers a forward-looking and technically sound solution for rainwater management and underground infrastructure. These galvanized, corrugated steel tanks combine structural strength, a long lifespan, and fast installation in one efficient system.
Furthermore, since 2026, we have been the only manufacturer in Belgium capable of offering an ATG-certified steel tank. Thanks to this ATG certification, Tubao tanks meet the strict requirements often specified in government contracts, where BENOR- or ATG-approved solutions are required as standard.
Technical characteristics of Tubao tanks
Tubao tanks are produced completely to measure (up to 3 m in diameter and 21 m in length in a single piece) and offer significant advantages:
- High structural strength; also suitable for heavy traffic loads
- No need for a foundation slab or distribution plate
- Fast and easy installation
- Stable placement, even with the addition of excavated soil
- Long service life thanks to galvanized corrugated steel
For applications such as fire water reservoirs, the tanks can be equipped with hydrants, manholes, float valves and other specific facilities.

Applications with Tubao buffer and storage tanks
Rainwater harvesting and reuse
The rainwater is collected via a filter in the rainwater tank and a foot bend prevents the sediment from mixing with the rainwater. Thanks to the overflow siphon, no pests enter the storage tank. The collected clean rainwater is then sucked up via a suction kit equipped with a filter check valve and a float. The pumped water is then led to a second filtration phase which usually consists of a nylon element that filters the fine sludge and another element with activated carbon against odors.
Buffering and delayed discharge of rainwater
Tubao is a buffer tank that serves as temporary storage for rainwater during heavy rainfall or thunderstorms, equipped with a delayed discharge. Due to the large surface areas, larger buffer volumes are very often necessary, for which the TUBAO pipes are the ideal solution. During heavy rainfall or thunderstorms, the rainwater is temporarily collected in the buffer tank. This buffer tank fills up very gradually during the rain shower and then discharges the rainwater in a delayed manner via a narrowed pipe opening into natural watercourses or the sewer system. If desired, we can provide a vortex valve that is pre-calibrated to comply with legally imposed discharge rates.
firewater reservoir
The fire water tank is equipped with a float valve and is always filled with water. In the event of a fire, it can be connected very easily. The resistance of the TUBAO was calculated to be able to bear all road surface loads (even without a distribution plate under a heavy traffic road surface if our installation instructions are respected).
Underground tanks have numerous advantages compared to open basins, namely:
- no risk of accidents
- fewer disadvantages of freezing cold and evaporation
- no environmental nuisance
- easy to maintain because it is fully accessible
- space-saving
- available from 10 m³ to infinity
Underground passage
TUBAO metal pipes allow for the creation of passages without having to use concrete or heavy metal structures. Examples of applications:
- traffic lane
- watercourse crossing
- animal passage
- ski pass
- pedestrian walkway
Sewerage
TUBAO's galvanized steel pipes are an economical alternative for rainwater drainage.
- quick and easy to install
- lightweight and easy to manipulate
- no distribution plate needed for heavy loads
- diameter from 300 to 3000 mm
- lengths from 3 to 21 m in one piece
- ability to incorporate curves

FAQ
1. What are the benefits of Tubao tanks for rainwater management on large construction projects?
Tubao tanks are designed for projects where large volumes of rainwater must be efficiently managed. They combine buffering, storage, and discharge into one flexible system.
The main benefits:
- Large capacity for industrial and infrastructure projects
- Slow drainage to relieve pressure on sewers and watercourses
- Versatile (buffer, infiltration, extinguishing water, drainage)
- High structural resistance, suitable under heavy traffic
- Fast and efficient installation, which optimizes the construction site planning
Therefore, Tubao tanks are a high-performance solution for modern rainwater management, where both legislation as climate impact play an increasingly important role
2. How do you size a Tubao rainwater storage tank (volume and capacity)?
The sizing of a Tubao buffer tank is always done on a project-by-project basis and takes multiple parameters into account:
- Drainage surface (roof, paving, site)
- Precipitation intensity and peak discharges
- Obligations regarding retention and infiltration
- Desired reuse applications
- Permitted discharge rate (regulations)
Tubao works with custom solutions and offers support through an engineering firm that per project a technical data sheet and detailed design elaborated. This ensures that the installation aligns perfectly with the hydraulic requirements and local regulations.
3. When do you choose a Tubao system instead of traditional rainwater solutions?
A Tubao system is the ideal choice when traditional solutions (such as concrete chambers) fall short:
- Bee large buffer or storage volumes
- When flexibility in length and diameter is needed
- On sites with limited space or complex configuration
- For projects where quick installation what is important
- When a custom solution required is
Thanks to its modular design and large dimensions (up to several meters in diameter and lengths in a single piece), Tubao offers scalability that traditional solutions often cannot achieve
4. How do rainwater buffering and delayed discharge work with Tubao tanks?
Tubao tanks act as temporary storage buffers that collect rainwater during peak downpours and discharge it in a controlled manner.
The principle:
- Rainwater is collected and temporarily stored
- The tank gradually fills during the rain shower
- Via a controlled restriction or flow control is the water drained at a delayed rate
- Optionally, a swirl valve applied to precisely adjust the discharge rate
This system prevents peak loads on sewers and watercourses and helps mitigate flood risks — crucial in urban and industrial projects.
5. For what applications can Tubao tanks be used within infrastructure and utility projects?
Tubao tanks are extremely versatile and are used in various applications within infrastructure and construction projects:
- Rainwater buffering and storage
- Delayed drainage and infiltration
- Fire water reservoirs
- Industrial water reuse (process water)
- Underground passages and technical applications
- Sewerage and protective conduits
Due to this wide applicability, Tubao systems are suitable for both commercial construction, industry, logistics as public infrastructure.
