Two years after the devastating fire in January 2020, the reconstruction of the Realco factory started.
The works in Louvain-la-Neuve are being carried out jointly by the companies Loiseau and Cobelba. Deschacht supplied a custom-made tank with very specific specifications.
Realco is a biotech company that offers enzyme-based hygiene solutions and processes. The new 4,000 m² factory is built on a plot of approximately 7,000 m². To collect industrial production water, Realco needed a custom-made tank.
A custom-made, double-walled HDPE tank
With a length of 13m70 and an outer diameter of 2m20, this double-walled HDPE tank has a capacity of 42m³. “HDPE (high-density polyethylene) offers the advantage of being inert and resistant to most aggressive agents,” explains Dimitri Steilen, project manager at Deschacht. These are substances that must not end up directly in the sewer system. The double wall of the tank allows for the addition of a leak detection system. A sensor detects pressure fluctuations and warns of potential leaks.
Equipment for increased safety and optimal emptying
Collinet and Deschacht proposed tailor-made equipment to best meet the customer's needs. This specification, drawn up in collaboration with the company Loiseau, seems to have met all expectations. “Following our discussions with the customer, this tank was equipped with level sensors. These indicate how full it is and when emptying by an authorized body is necessary. A suction pipe with a fire brigade connection has also been integrated, which makes emptying easier,” explains Dimitri Steilen. “We appreciated that Deschacht took the customer's requirements into account and offered solutions that met the specifications of the tender,” states Pierre-Yves Colinet, Technical Director of Cobelba.
Successful communication for a multi-player project
“Cobelba is the general contractor responsible for the construction site, which called upon Loiseau for the sewerage and earthworks. After consultation and validation with Realco and Cobelba, Loiseau contacted Deschacht and Collinet and discussed the production of the tank with them, explains Dimitri Steilen, project manager at Deschacht. Despite this somewhat complicated process, communication between the various players involved in the project and with Deschacht and Collinet went well. The latter is a manufacturer of polyethylene solutions that produces storage tanks, among other things, such as for this project, as well as separators and inspection chambers. The tank manufactured by Collinet was delivered on time and was supplemented by the delivery of Deschacht products, including gutters and inspection chambers.
