Persyn renovates sewers in Oudenaarde, with advice and collectors from Deschacht
In the center of Oudenaarde, sewerage, road construction, and concrete specialist Persyn is ensuring the separation of wastewater and rainwater in the Rietgracht. For the supply of the GRP collectors and the technical advice, they are collaborating with Deschacht.
Sewer works in Oudenaarde
Project manager and co-director Lode Provoost: “Until July 2021, a team of 15 sewer workers will be working on the Rietgracht in Oudenaarde, commissioned by the city and Aquafin. A vaulted underground culvert runs right through the center, serving as a sewer. Over a distance of 2 km, we are installing a new sewer made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) inside the culvert for wastewater. In addition, we are rehabilitating the existing culvert – entirely underground – to eventually drain rainwater. Approximately 400 homes will be connected to the new sewer network.”
Materials and technical advice from Deschacht
For the building materials, Persyn called upon the company Deschacht. All collectors and pipes for the property connections come from Deschacht. The main collectors are GRP pipes, the other pipes are made of HDPE. Lode Provoost: “Deschacht’s engineering department develops technical proposals for the property connections and collectors for us. We work together regularly and are always very satisfied with that.”
FRP pipes
GRP (glass-fiber reinforced plastic) pipes are highly resistant to corrosive substances and to the low pH of biogenic sulfuric acid, which is frequently found in wastewater. GRP pipes are therefore perfectly suited for use in the discharge of municipal wastewater. GRP pipes have a wide range of applications for the drainage of bridge, road, rail, or tunnel water.
