Along the E40 in Remicourt, a large-scale project is progressing at high-speed train speed: the construction of a new rest area for truck drivers with 129 parking spaces, where safety and comfort are paramount. This unique project in Belgium is partly financed by European funds and must be completed by June 30. The traditionally planned drainage systems have been replaced by two rows of galvanized steel Tubao pipes, contributing to the rapid execution of the works. This alternative was successfully proposed by the company Lucas David in close collaboration with Deschacht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dimitri Steilen, head of the Wallonia research department at Deschacht, and Ga\u00ebtan Lemestre, technical director at the construction company Lucas David (Oreye), have been working together for ten years and appreciate each other's expertise. Ga\u00ebtan Lemestre was even responsible for the installation of the very first Tubao in Wallonia.\n\nThese versatile corrugated, galvanized steel tanks offer an efficient solution for water retention, drainage, infiltration, and storage of rainwater and fire-fighting water, among other things. These buffer tanks are available in various dimensions and lengths and are also custom-assembled. In Remicourt, not one, but<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in just a day and a half<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal is to create a retention basin for the temporary storage of rainwater before it is discharged into the public sewer system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 1,200 m\u00b3 retention basin, constructed in just two days!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ga\u00ebtan Lemestre explains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEach pipe is 21 meters long, the maximum allowed without exceptional transport, and weighs between 2 and 3 tons. Thanks to this light weight, the pipes can be easily installed with a crane. In this way, we installed fourteen of these elements in less than two days. They were then connected to each other with clamping bands to form two long parallel lines that connect directly to large slot drains. After that, all that remains is sealing the joints and backfilling with soil.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This renders the miles of concrete pipes and inspection chambers of a conventional drainage system unnecessary. The galvanized steel pipes have a diameter of 2.2 meters and can be easily inspected and maintained thanks to manholes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engineering optimization by Deschacht<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur study department assisted Lucas David in completely revising and optimizing the drainage system, naturally in strict compliance with the specifications and applicable standards. This alternative approach offered a distinctive added value and led to winning the project. The architect, who manages the project on behalf of the client, was convinced by the benefits this solution offered, both for the execution of the works and for future maintenance. The experience of Deschacht and Lucas David with this type of product has made all the difference once again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speed and cost-efficiency<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to this efficient approach, the project can proceed with the remaining work without delay, allowing completion to take place at the end of June. The next steps include laying the foundations, asphalt-paving the parking area, constructing a facility building with ten bedrooms, a dining area and sanitary facilities, and creating a roundabout to improve traffic flow.\n\nThe proposed Tubao solution provided an additional \u2013 and not insignificant \u2013 benefit. The cost of the water management component was significantly reduced through the installation of the storage tanks and the reduction of sewerage materials.\n\nLocated near the E40, E42, E313 and E25 motorways, as well as Bierset airport, this unique and secure parking area offers an ideal location. The project's initiator, the owner of HesbyMazout, has clearly responded to an urgent need. Truck drivers traveling through Europe will feel right at home here, regardless of weather conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
