However, that imposing structure needed new water pipes\u2014a task that the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Wallonne des Eaux (SWDE) entrusted to the company Hydrogaz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In late 2023, Rue le Marais underwent a makeover with the installation of new pipes. \u201cWe started by laying the discharge pipe from a separation chamber. Then we tackled the water tower\u2019s supply pipe, starting from a feed in the same chamber,\u201d explains Eric Forthomme, project manager at Hydrogaz. \u201cThe entire installation will supply SWDE's drinking water pipelines.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Superpowered pipes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe specifications prescribed a very specific type of pipes and we turned to Deschacht because their prices are competitive and they offer high-quality products that comply with the European standard NBN EN 545,\u201d Eric Forthomme continues. \u201cFor this project, we ordered DN300 diameter cast iron pipes from Electrosteel.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Electrosteel makes its pipes from ductile iron, a material that can bend slightly without breaking,\u201d adds Vincent Brehl, external sales representative at Deschacht. \u201cTheir products meet the required European standards and are supplied in the form of blue pipes, coated with an epoxy layer with a guaranteed thickness of 400 g\/m<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">. In case of minor damage to the protective casing, the epoxy layer is self-healing. The inner lining is made of food-grade concrete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eco-friendly pipes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ductile iron seems like an ideal material for water pipes. Only the misunderstanding that it would be polluting prevents its generalized application. Although the cast iron is made in blast furnaces, Electrosteel has multiple certifications: ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and SA8000. In other words, the company cares about the environment and the safety and rights of its employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Electrosteel supplies pipes and accessories made of recycled cast iron, a great example of an ecological approach. They are durable, last more than 100 years, and even feature closed-loop packaging to minimize their environmental impact.
