Weholite, double-wall HDPE pipes

In Belgium, Deschacht is the exclusive partner of TUBAO, manufacturer of Weholite: custom-made HDPE pipes for storage and the distribution of wastewater and drinking water, among other things. Hertsens Wegenwerken installed the pipes on the district site of the Agency for Roads and Traffic in Gentbrugge, where the storage and distribution of road salt and brine takes place during the winter months.

Double-walled HDPE pipes for storage and distribution

The French manufacturer TUBAO produces galvanized steel and HDPE pipes for water management, chemical drainage, and fertilizers. Geert Vanhecke is Commercial Manager at TUBAO Benelux: “Weholite, those are our double-walled high-density polyethylene pipes. We custom-make them to the customer's specifications. For a single piece of pipe, we can go up to 3 meters in diameter and 21 meters in length – good for a volume of 150,000 liters. We can also connect these pipes together to create even much larger reservoirs.”

“You use Weholite as a storage tank for a wide variety of materials, ranging from liquid foods and wastewater to chemical products. They also serve as pumping stations and as tanks for biogas production. However, Weholite pipes are most commonly used for the distribution, storage, and buffering of water. That was also the case in Gentbrugge.”

Rainwater harvesting for brine installation

Olivier Maes, site manager at Hertsens Wegenwerken: “In Gentbrugge, on the site of the gritting services of the Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic, we installed three Weholite tanks to collect rainwater falling on the roofs of the buildings: one of 120 m3 and two of 100 m3. The latter were interconnected to form a single large 200 m3 reservoir. The biggest challenge was getting those enormous tanks into position. We spent a week on preparations. We dug pits up to 4.5 meters deep, lowered the groundwater table, and created a bedding of stabilized sand in which the tanks are seated. Thanks to the good agreements with Deschacht and the manufacturer, we only needed one day to install and connect the tanks.”

Underground pump rooms have also already been provided on the site. Eco Solutions will install the pumps in both the Weholite buffers and the pump rooms at the end of September. These recover the water and send it via a pressure pipe to the facilities to use it for making brine. Marco Bellemans, Sales Engineer at Eco Solutions: “To connect the pumps, a special control system was needed. Our engineering department adapted the pump systems to the Weholite tanks and the brine installation. So far, the process has gone very smoothly. That is the advantage of being involved so early in the process. Then you can coordinate with all partners in advance and the plans and materials are right the first time.”

Deschacht as exclusive partner in Belgium

Together with TUBAO Benelux, Deschacht is responsible for the engineering and distribution of Weholite structures in Belgium. Our engineering departments work closely together. And we organize the transport and installation.
