Drenotube drains water from small houses in Bokrijk

Many cottages in the Bokrijk open-air museum do not have a gutter. The rainwater running off the thatched roofs damaged the concrete paving around the houses [due] to erosion. A drainage solution was urgently needed. Earthworks Vandersmissen Tim proposed to use Drenotube. Now that phase 1 of the project is finished, the system drains the water from seven cottages.

Ready-to-use drainage

Drenotube is a ready-to-use drainage system that also allows rainwater to infiltrate into the ground. It processes more groundwater and rainwater than other drainage systems. Around each pipe are EPS foam blocks that increase the operating surface area. A geotextile filter cloth prevents clogging and a sturdy mesh net holds the entire system together.

Scarcely any workspace

Managing Director Tim Vandersmissen: “In some places there is only a 1-meter passageway between the open-air museum's small houses and the surrounding fence or hedge. That makes traditional draining with gravel very difficult. When we presented Drenotube's technical datasheets, we were able to convince the management of Bokrijk and Team van Meer architectural firm to replace that classical drainage with Drenotube. The system itself is more expensive, but we save on working hours and the transport costs of all the gravel loads.”

Fast and simple installation

“Installing Drenotube is much faster than traditional drainage. Once we had broken up the concrete, we only needed to dig a narrow trench, lay the pipes in it, and cover everything back up. Such a pipe is also very light, which makes it easier and much more precise to work with. That reduces the chance of errors.”
